Important Requirement

All text in the document (headings, body text, figures, tables, references, etc.) should use the styles specified by the template

Headings

1. Leave a blank line before each level-one heading (I, II, III…).

2. Level-one, level-two, and level-three headings should not be the last line on a page (known as widow/orphan control).

3. Blank space at the bottom of a page caused by an illustration may be no more than 1~2 lines high.

4. Order of multilevel headings in the body text

Figures and Tables

Figures and Illustrations

1. Tables and illustrations cannot appear directly at the beginning of a body-text paragraph; they must be preceded by an explanation.

2. Figure and table captions should be concise, clear, and self-explanatory rather than overly general. Figure numbers may have only two levels, such as Figure 1.1, Figure 1.2, and Figure 4.5. Three-level figure numbers such as Figure 2.1.1 are prohibited.

3. A figure and its caption, or a table and its caption, must remain on the same page.

4. Make figures as small as possible, provided their content remains clear.

5. Minimize the blank space above and below a figure by cropping it out.

6. Text labels in a figure should be 1 Chinese font size smaller than the body text.

7. Use Visio whenever possible to draw flowcharts, block diagrams, and similar figures. While Visio is open, you can insert a Visio file directly into Word.

8. Figure caption format

## Tables

1. All tables must use the three-line table format. Table numbers may have only two levels, such as Table 1.1, Table 1.2, and Table 4.5, which are two-level figure numbers. Three-level table numbers such as Table 2.1.1 are prohibited.

1. Use the equation add-in in Word (alt =) for equations. Set symbols in italics and units in upright type.
